The much awaited Keynote by Microsoft at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2011 ended an hour ago.
The main highlights of the whole presentation was perhaps the whole lineup of tablets and laptops that Microsoft had piled up on stage.
They gave us a hope to see the futurific rigs we get to watch in Sci-Fi movies.
Each tablet was one step closer to that goal, Minority Report you’re going down.

Apart from that there wasn’t anything to jump about, the Avatar Kinect was confirmed, Microsoft announced some features which are already on the PS3 so nothing new there, a lineup of games were announced for the Windows Phone 7 and finally the preceedings ended with Windows 7 PC.

    Hulu Plus And Netflix:

The presentation started with the announcement of Hulu and Netflix coming for the Kinect this spring.
The Kinect remote control for Netflix and Hulu Plus will enable you to access music archives, movie vault and TV season line up.
The rest of the demonstration showed hand gestures and actions based on voice recognition.
The PS3 already had the Hulu Plus and Netflix options months ago so Microsoft is just catching up at the moment.

    ESPN Live:

Next we got the announcement of accessing ESPN Live on Xbox. You’ll be able to interact with friends all across the globe in real time.
So in addition to watching sports with your virtual friends, you can go ahead and interact as well, like posting a voting poll to the probable winner of the upcoming soccer event or viewing a leaderboard of your friends.
This combined with the next announcement would seem fun and interesting.

    Avatar Kinect:

Steve Ballmer finally demonstrated the much expected Avatar Kinect. He confirmed that the device can capture your facial expressions to the dot.
You are now able to setup virtual meetings and conversations with your friends.
The Avatar Kinect will be made available for free for all Xbox Live Gold members this spring.
In short you can now chat as your avatar.

    Microsoft Units Stats:

Some stats were shown next to assure us of their profound success. Xbox Live members just reached 30 million which is an astonishing mark.
50 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold world wide.
The Kinect is selling at a tremendous rate, according to Steve Microsoft sold 8 million Kinect units in the first 60 days.
The hub in your living room.

    Windows Phone 7:

Steve referred to the Windows Phone 7 as Xbox Live on the go. The new mobile platform has one major app built-in for gamers. You can access your Xbox Live account through the phone enabling you to edit your avatar, view your achievements, contact your friends on XBL and earn achievements by playing mobile games.
A list of games were shown which will be coming to the phone. They included
    • Fable: Coin Golf
    • De Blog
    • Fruit Ninja
    • Halo Waypoint
    • Pac-Man
    • Game Room: Shao Lin’s Road
    • Game Room: Centipede
    • Game Room: Asteroids Deluxe
    • Monoply
    • Pocket God
    • Zombie Attack 2
    • PES 2011
    • Butterfly
    • The Sims 3
    • Need For Speed Undercover
    • Star Wars: Cantina
    • Tetris
    • Parachute Panic
Steve didn’t forget to remind everyone that
Windows 7 is the best new phone out there

    Windows 7 PC:

A lot of new innovations were shown which were basically focused on tablets and laptops. One piece which really blew my mind away was a dual screen laptop by Acer.

The second display works as a software keyboard but you can change it to whatever you want like displaying your photo gallery.
A new surface PC was shown as well. It is based on a new technology called Pixel Sense Tech.

Before they had camera beneath the surface, now they’ve gone with pixel recognition.
That basically means you can put a piece of paper on the display and it will read the text written on it.
The screen also uses infrared sensors for touch input.
Another ASUS Windows 7 tablet was shown.
This one was a new 12 inch which also does stylus input.
You won’t end up with mistakes and typos because this tablet features palm rejection.
It knows not to respond to palm touches if the stylus is down.
In a nut shell around 20 tablets/laptops were maybe shown, Microsoft took it’s sworn duty to switch from one product to the other as quickly as possible.
It wasn’t long before I lost of everything that they were saying.
